Kesennuma (気仙沼市)

This beautiful coastal town was hit by the Tsunami just 10 minutes after the earthquake striking.  People are trying to escape by cars, but the Tsunami was faster.

A few hours later, Kesennuma was destroyed by a massive fire burning throughout the night.

Troops of Ground Self-Defense Force are searching for survivors under the broken houses and buildings this morning, on the third morning after the earthquake.  Nobody knows how many people are dead under the rubble.

350 elementary school pupils at Minami Kesennuma were left at school overnight while the first floor was flooded.  When the children were finally rescued, some could not find their parents.
